Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry – A Spiritual Sanctuary of Integral Yoga

Sri Aurobindo Ashram, founded in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, is a vibrant spiritual community located in the heart of Pondicherry, India. Under the guidance of The Mother, the Ashram has grown from a modest gathering of just 24 disciples into a large, diverse community of nearly 1600 members today. Including the students of the Centre of Education and nearby devotees, the extended ashram community exceeds 2000 individuals.

Situated in the eastern part of Pondicherry, the Ashram's facilities are spread across several buildings. The spiritual heart of the community is the Main Ashram building, often simply called "the Ashram", an interconnected cluster of residences where Sri Aurobindo and The Mother lived. At its centre lies the Samadhi, a serene, tree-shaded courtyard housing the white marble shrine where their bodies rest, drawing seekers and devotees into a space of profound peace.

The Sri Aurobindo Ashram ensures a holistic lifestyle for its members, providing for their essential needs — food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare. Various departments manage these services with care and dedication. The Ashram also promotes cultural enrichment through its libraries, music, dance, theatre, and art programs. Physical well-being is equally emphasized, with regular activities such as sports, asanas, strength training, and swimming being an integral part of daily life.

The Ashram operates under the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust, a public charitable trust formed by The Mother in 1955. The Trust is overseen by a board of five trustees, ensuring the smooth functioning and preservation of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother's vision.

Today, Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry remains a beacon for those seeking Inner Transformation, Integral Yoga, and a deeper connection to the ideals of Spiritual Evolution and Human Unity.
